History of Woodland Management, Inc.
Woodland Management Inc. has been in business since 1953 when our founder Richard Smith started Woodland as a division of another forestry company. He later owned Woodland as a personal business and finally incorporated Woodland. His son Mark Smith joined the firm in 1973 and purchased it in 1981. Dan Green and Jim Wick joined the firm in 1984 and 1985 respectively. They purchased the firm from Mark Smith in February 1999.
In its early days Woodland practiced only selection harvest, uneven-aged forestry. Woodland was the pioneer of what is even now a unique and interesting alternative to even aged management. Mark Smith broadened the scope of Woodland to include traditional even-aged forestry when he purchased the company creating the full service consulting forestry company that we are today.
